<B>1896 $20 PR60 PCGS.</B></I> The 1896 has the highest mintage of any 19th century proof double eagle issue, and is similarly the most available of such coins. This piece has unfortunately seen more than its share of surface contact, explaining its modest grade, yet it also retains the fully mirrored, orange peel fields expected from a proof of the date. The coin is deep orange-gold in color, and there remains a considerable amount of contrast between the fields and the devices, which retain a good deal of frosty luster.
