1895-S<S$1> MS66 NGC. Struck in the final year of a brief political climate that drastically reduced the production of Morgan Dollars, the 1895-S is an issue that can be difficult to locate in all but the most heavily worn grades. Most Mint State '95-S Dollars available today originated from the Redfield hoard, which held about 1,000 pieces of generally well abraded examples of this difficult and popular issue. This comparatively small quantity of Uncirculated pieces tends to grade MS 63 at best, most often a point or two less, and Premium Gem examples such as this one are virtually unheard of quality.
Both sides of this impeccable, wholly original representative are typically well defined and are layered in mottled lilac-gray, coppery-gold, and steel-blue shades. As one might expect from its outstanding grade, there are few surface marks of any consequence beneath the toning. A shallow blemish on Liberty's brow only shows up under close scrutiny and is only being mentioned because of the scarcity of marks. Population: 3 in 66, 0 finer (5/05).
