<B>1895-S S$1 MS65 PCGS.</B></I> This is a scarce San Francisco Mint issue which has seen relatively few survivors from a mintage of 400,000 pieces. It is exceedingly scarce at the Gem level of preservation, and, in his <I>Encyclopedia,</B></I> Bowers states: "MS-65 or finer specimens are truly rare, and I estimate that only about 50 to 100 remain."<BR> The current offering is a flashy Gem that displays semi-prooflike fields and a slight degree of milky patina. The design elements are boldly struck, except for minor softness just above Liberty's ear and on the eagle's breast feathers. There are only a few small marks on each side of the coin.
