1895 S$1 PR55--Polished--ANACS. AU55 Details. Q. David Bowers and Roger W. Burdette have reached diametrically opposite conclusions regarding the business strike vs. proof issue. But Bowers' Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars (2005) states categorically that no 1895-dated business strikes were produced. In the latest A Buyer's Guide to Silver Dollar and Trade Dollars of the United States, third edition, by Bowers and edited by John Dannreuther, Bowers backpedals a bit, saying that perhaps 12,000 business strikes were dated 1895, but melted in 1918 under terms of the Pittman Act. The jury is still out, but appeals are likely.
Both sides are rather garish and too consistently glossy on this polished proof. Light contact marks are noted on the cheek. Nonetheless an affordable example of this "King of the Morgans."

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
