Silver (Sheffield-plate?) presentation trowel marked "Presented by the Architects to Alderman J Hall J.P. mayor at the Stone Laying Ceremony of the Wesleyan Chapel, Pine Street, Bury. September 18th 1895”. Reverse hallmarked J.R.&S. with a crown in cartouche. Trowel measures approximately 6.5 inches heel to toe and 3.5 inches across the blade at the widest point with an ornate shank and African elephant ivory handle. Includes original purple velvet- and satin-lined presentation case with painted wooden shell (approximately 16 by 6 inches). Case is in very good condition with some finish loss, trowel is in excellent condition for age with no tarnishing and only a few very small pits. This lot has a reserve
