1895 $2 1/2 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. A gorgeous Premium G
1895 $2 1/2 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. A gorgeous Premium Gem that apparently has never been dipped, since the milky peach toning near the borders is intact. The obverse open fields are largely untoned, and possess profound reflectivity. As expected from the Deep Cameo designation, the portrait has obvious frost, and only the original toning prevents the reverse from displaying equal contrast. Only 119 proofs were struck, and a goodly portion of this production was undoubtedly spent or melted prior to 1940, when proofs finally attained a measurable premium over their bullion value. Karl Stecher, Sr. purchased this piece as lot 1154 in a circa-1940 auction by Barney Bluestone of Syracuse, New York. Accompanied by a Barney Bluestone kraft envelope with faded and largely unintelligible pencil notes, though "1154," written in pen, and "Proof" are unmistakable. Population: 6 in 66 Deep Cameo, 1 finer (1/07).
From The Stecher Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
