1894 S$1 MS65 PCGS. The '94-P, one of just 110,000 pieces struck, is the scarcest Philadelphia Morgan after the Proof-only 1895, being valuable in all grades and particularly desirable in Mint State. Gems, of course, demand the utmost respect, and even if a collector can come up with the cash they usually have to "settle" for an MS64 due to lack of availability. The obverse of this amazing Gem example displays creamy-white centers and a touch of orange-gold peripheral color. A few trivial blemishes can be seen on and to the left of Liberty's neck and on her chin, both minimally distracting locations. The reverse has dappled orange toning that intensifies to aquamarine iridescence along the left margin, and the satiny luster shines through forcefully. Several scuff marks on the eagle's breast are downplayed by the attractive toning. All in all, one of the nicest 1894 Morgans that we have ever offered and sure to wind up as a centerpiece of a carefully assembled collection of this popular series.
