1894 50C PR68 Cameo NGC. It seems hard to believe by the standards of today's coinage, but after the introduction of the Barber half dollar, as well as the quarter and dime, in 1892, it took the Philadelphia Mint another five years to reach 2 million business strikes. Mint State examples from those early years are rare, putting added pressure on the proofs. 1894 saw a proof emission of 972 pieces, considerable for the time. It is difficult to believe that many pieces could exceed the present piece, either in terms of numerical grade or aesthetic appeal, and neither service has certified a finer piece. The surfaces are brilliant silver-white with no appreciable toning, good black-on-silver contrast, and a bold strike. Census: 2 in 68, 0 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
