1893-S$1> XF45 PCGS. Both sides of this rare date Morgan dollar display a uniform dove-gray finish. Slightly worn on the highpoints, the piece is free of any serious or even moderate abrasions, showing just a few shallow blemishes on each side. There are wispy hairlines in the fields, and faint slide marks on the central devices. Traces of original mint luster still cling to the peripheral devices.
The '93-S is an important, low mintage issue that has long been considered the key to the Morgan dollar series. XF is the last grade level at which the '93-S has been certified by the two major services in a fairly sizeable quantity. More than 1000 examples have been graded at either XF40 or XF45, which keeps the price of such coins relatively affordable, compared to the much scarcer and very costly AU and Mint State specimens.
