1893-S S$1 MS65 NGC.
1893-S S$1 MS65 NGC. Morgan dollar mintages were drastically reduced from 1893 to 1895 because of three factors: the Sherman Act of 1893 was repealed, Grover Cleveland was elected to the presidency once again, and the Panic of 1893 caused gold to be hoarded during this period. All the silver dollars from this era are scarce or rare, but standing head and shoulders above all the rest is the 1893-S. Only 100,000 pieces were struck, most of which were either extensively circulated or later melted, and today survivors are eagerly sought out in all grades. Only a few dozen Mint State coins are known today, and they are among the most prized silver dollars of any date or type. This is a splendid Gem example that shows the unusual luster that is unique to this issue, a cross between satiny and frosty luster with a hard, steel-gray finish. Sharply defined on each side, there are no obvious or distracting blemishes that detract or could serve as pedigree identifiers for future researchers. The surfaces are nearly untoned with just the slightest hint of color on both obverse and reverse. Population: 1 in 65, 0 finer (11/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
