1893-S[25C] MS66 PCGS.
1893-S<25C> MS66 PCGS. The 1893-S Barber Quarter was born as a low mintage issue. The San Francisco Mint delivered 1.4 million quarters this year, a limited mintage for the era, especially when one considers that the Philadelphia Mint coined 5.4 million pieces in 1893, and New Orleans produced a further 3.3 million coins. Writing in 1994 (The Complete Guide to Barber Quarters), David Lawrence states that the 1893-S is difficult to locate in all grades, especially Fine-XF and throughout the Mint State spectrum. Those Uncirculated coins known to NGC and PCGS are concentrated in the MS 62-64 grade range, and only 11 pieces that grade finer than Choice BU are shown on both current population reports (3/04).
The surfaces of this fully original Gem are uncommonly clean, even for the MS66 grade level. Not a single noticeable abrasion disturbs the coruscant mint frost. A richly colored and lively display of deep copper-gold, sunset-red, and olive-green toning has gathered in a somewhat mottled fashion over both sides. As befits the issue, the devices are fully brought up--an uncommon occurrence for a branch mint issue in this series. Certainly a highlight of the present collection, and a significant bidding opportunity for the discerning Barber quarter specialist. Population: 1 in 66, 2 finer (3/04).
From the JFS Collection.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
