However, towering above the others and difficult at all grade levels is the 1893-S, a numismatically legendary issue that is widely known to even the most casual coin collector. Its value in circulated condition can be attributed to the immense popularity of the series, but any collector serious enough to consider an example in AU or better condition must not only have the means, but also the patience. Only a few dozen Mint State pieces are known to exist, and they are among the most prized Silver Dollars of any date and any type.<BR>Affordability is a definite factor among the few remaining Uncirculated coins because the majority grade MS63 or finer. This solid Mint State representative is quite unusual in that it falls into the lower tier and yet there is no question about its Uncirculated status. The surfaces are mostly brilliant with full, frosty luster and only the expected grade-limiting contact marks on the obverse. For pedigree purposes we also note a milling mark on the lower portion of the eagle's breast. Gentlemen, start your engines. Population: 3 in 61, 21 finer (4/03). </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><A name=PricesRealized></A><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%"><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%" bgColor=#79735c><A name=PR><FONT face=arial color=#ffffff size=3><B>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</B> </FONT></A></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#f6f6ed>No Prior Data Recorded </TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffff><FONT face=arial size=1 ?>PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
