1893$1 MS66 NGC. Long regarded as one of the more difficult Morgan Dollar issues from the Philadelphia mint, only the 1894 and 1895 issues are more elusive to find in circulated grades. The limited original mintage (378,000 business strikes) of this date guarantees its continued popularity among Morgan Dollar specialists. Uncirculated examples are always available for a price, but Gems are very scarce and premium Gems such as the present coin are virtually unheard of. Indeed, between NGC and PCGS, only six pieces have been certified at this lofty grade, with none higher (1/05).
A brilliant and frosty Gem with nearly immaculate fields. A couple of microscopic milling marks are located on Liberty's vulnerable cheek, these only being mentioned for future pedigree purposes. The peak of the 3 in the date is recut. As is the strike is good, this Condition Census piece will be the standout of any collection of Morgans.
From The Banks Collection. Lot:10407
