1893 Isabella Quarter Dollar NGC MS67
A satiny superb gem with faint purple-gray to dusky antique silver surfaces that envelope the swirling and hard-working luster beneath. Some weakness of strike is seen on a few lesser grade Isabellas, but nowhere do you find the least iota of softness on this marvelous specimen. It has gorgeous original surfaces and color. Just the thing for a high-end Registry Set of Commemoratives.

The crowned female bust is Barber's fanciful portrait of Queen Ysabela (Isabella) "la Catolica," possibly remotely after some unaccredited old engraving. There is little resemblance between her crown and that of the Spanish kings or queens, nor are the details of her hairnet and garments particularly authentic, at least if one may judge from the surviving coins portraying her with King Fernando. But that is okay, American collectors will accept her anyway she is presented to us. (#9220)
The Endangered Species Collection
