Along with the 1879-CC and 1889-CC issues, it is among the "Great Triumvirate" of CC-mint key dates. It is also seldom found in Choice condition, usually plagued by the twin curses of extensive bagmarks and weak strikes. This superlative silver-white example shows peripheral gold-amber accents, with ebullient cartwheel luster on each side. The strike is typical for the issue, with a small unstruck area above the ear, and another (possibly the result of minor die filling) on the right leaves of the wreath above AR in DOLLAR. The eagle's breast is softly struck. Abrasions, however, are less in frequency and severity than usual, although two ticks on Liberty's cheek are noticeable, with several other small abrasions in evidence. The superior surfaces and bold luster confirm both the grade and the high eye appeal.
