1893-CC $20 MS63 PCGS. This is the final year of issue
1893-CC<$20> MS63 PCGS. This is the final year of issue for the Carson City Mint, and the present example is tied for the finest of this date that PCGS has ever certified. The popularity of this issue is enhanced by its low mintage of just 18,402 coins. This is an attractive example that has frosty luster and sharp design elements. Both sides have rich orange-gold color, and few abrasions other than the usual scattered marks that are consistent with the grade. Both Rusty Goe and Doug Winter agree that this is an excellent choice for type collectors. Winter commented: "The 1893-CC is found with better overall eye appeal than most Carson City double eagles, making it a popular choice as a type coin. While most are rather extensively abraded, it is possible to find an appealing piece with good color and luster as well as a sharp strike." Here is just such a piece that meets these comments. Date collectors and type collectors may have to battle each other to acquire this splendid specimen. Population: 18 in 63, 0 finer (7/06).
