1893-CC<$10> MS62 NGC. In the final year of coinage at Carson City, mintage of eagles dwindled to 14,000 pieces, markedly fewer than the 103,732 pieces and 40,000 pieces struck at the facility in 1891 and 1892, respectively. While the latter two dates are available in Mint State, the 1893-CC is a formidable rarity with full mint luster. The present well struck representative has unusually smooth surfaces for the MS62 level. Satin luster sweeps across the open fields. The light peach and lime coloration is attractive, and traces of debris within the shield confirm the originality. A remarkable piece that should nonetheless sell for a reasonable price, when compared with similarly rare Carson City issues of other denominations. NGC and PCGS combined have certified just four pieces at the MS62 level, with none finer (4/06).
From The Lewis (Tahoe) Collection.
