1893-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. The 1893-CC Morgan issue, last of its kind, was not well-preserved on the whole. In his A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, Q. David Bowers writes that Mint State survivors " ... are well known for being extensively bagmarked, some actually appearing quite abused. ... A really choice 1893-CC in any grade from MS-63 upward will be a find."
For the collector who is accustomed to such extensively abraded pieces, this comparatively clean near-Gem is a revelation. The portrait is pleasingly preserved overall, the cheek particularly so, and while an abrasion is noted at Liberty's neck, the remainder of the coin shows more luster grazes than actual marks. A boldly struck, minimally toned piece with powerful luster and amazing eye appeal. PCGS has graded only eight finer pieces (1/08).
From The Oxford Collection.

Coin Engraver: George T.
