1893-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. A well struck example of this difficult final-year Carson City dollar. Light gold patina visits the lustrous and unblemished fields and devices. Struck from multiply clashed dies. In the early 1960s, the Treasury holdings of silver dollars was nearly depleted by speculators. Most of the remaining million plus pieces were Uncirculated examples from the storied Carson City Mint. These were auctioned by the General Services Administration during the 1970s. While large quantities of 1880 to 1885 CC-mint dollars were sold, three dates did not appear in the GSA sales: the 1889-CC, 1892-CC, and 1893-CC. The indifferent storage and handling of certain hoards, such as Redfield's, has also contributed to the high grade scarcity of the 1893-CC.
From The #3 PCGS 'Mile High' Registry Set of Carson City Morgan Dollars.

Coin Engraver: George T.
