1893-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. The 1893-CC is a significant obstacle to the completion of a Morgan dollar collection. David Bowers (1993) writes: "Most 1893-CC dollars grade from MS60 to MS62 and ... are heavily bagmarked. MS63 coins are scarce ... (and) MS64 coins are rare. MS65 specimens are sufficiently elusive that even the most seasoned dealer in dollars will get excited if one is offered."
A well executed strike on the MS64 example in this lot imparts sharp definition to all of the design elements, including the hair at Liberty's ear and the eagle's breast feathers. Pleasing luster abounds on essentially untoned surfaces that, while possessing some grade-defining marks, are certainly not "heavily" abraded. All in all, this near-Gem exhibits exceptional overall eye appeal.

Coin Engraver: George T.
