1893 50C Columbian MS67 NGC. With years of certificati 1893 50C Columbian MS67 NGC. With years of certification now under our belts, the true rarity of many coins has come down to much more of a science than in the past. Today, a review of the Population Report or Census Report published by the grading services gives any collector an accurate glimpse as to what coins are known in what grades. Never before has the playing field between dealers and collectors been this level, and the "hype" factor reduced to much more of a stark reality than wishful thinking or downright not knowing. Any numismatist worth their salt can now discover just how rare virtually any coin is, in any particular grade. Of course, not every coin has been graded and some have been graded several times, but these reports of population data give a far more accurate reading than any collector or dealer can gain from years and years of careful study and note taking. In sum, we know far more today than we did two decades ago, and the data will continue to be refined as more and more coins are certified and their grades determined. For this lovely 1893 Columbian half, we know that just a handful have been found so pristine, and while quite common in many of the lower Mint State grades, above Gem condition, this coin is quite rare and on par with most of the other later issues from this popular series. Typically toned with gray surfaces overall and translucent blue toning around the margins.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary. Lot:10586
