1893 25C Isabella Quarter MS67 NGC. The presence
1893<25C> Isabella Quarter MS67 NGC. The presence of Queen Isabella on the commemorative quarter of 1893 was the first time a woman's portrait had appeared on a U.S. coin. It signified two important events: the aid given by Isabella to Columbus in the furtherance of his voyage of discovery, and to emphasize the importance of women in a great international enterprise (the Columbian Exposition). This is an important and obviously original example that is almost perfectly preserved. The only difference in this coin today and the way it was in 1893 is the presence of multiple layerings of toning that have accrued to the surfaces over the past 111 years. Sea-green, rose, and gray-lilac shadings are spread over each side with strong underlying mint luster. Population: 34 in 67, 8 finer (4/05).
