<B>1893 $20 MS64 NGC.</B></I> A delightful near-Gem example of this late-19th century emission, one with a moderate mintage by Philadelphia Mint standards of 344,200 pieces. The mellow orange-gold surfaces show a noteworthy lack of mentionable abrasions, and radiant cartwheel luster enlivens each side. In <I>Type Three III Double Eagles: A Numismatic History and Analysis </B></I>by Michael Fuljenz and Douglas Winter, the authors note that "of all the common Philadelphia issues from the 1890's, the 1893 is the most difficult to locate with choice surfaces."
