1893 $1 MS62 Prooflike PCGS. The 1893 is one of the lowest mintage Philadelphia issues, and unlike the 1899, it is scarce in Mint State. What few people realize is the rarity of the 1893 with prooflike surfaces. As of (6/07), PCGS has only certified six examples of this date as Prooflike or Deep Mirror Prooflike. At first glance, this brilliant and sharply struck example appears to merit a higher grade, but a loupe and careful rotation reveals a few faint slide marks on the cheek. In no way do these minor flaws detract from the coin's exceptionally deep mirrors. Population: 1 in 62 Prooflike, 0 finer (6/07).
From the Diamond Head Registry Set of Prooflike Dollars.

Coin Engraver: George T.
