1892-S S$1 MS67 PCGS.
1892-S S$1 MS67 PCGS. This is an extremely rare issue in Uncirculated grades in spite of a rather unimpressive mintage of 1.2 million pieces. Like the 1884-S, the 1892-S was placed into circulation just after minting and only a handful were set aside by collectors. Four other coins are known at this grade level, two of which we have handled (including the Eliasberg specimen). Rich smoky-gray, blue, and rose toning covers each side with slightly lighter hues on the reverse than the obverse. However, the multiple layers of original patination cannot subdue the exceptionally strong, underlying mint frost on this piece, which turns slightly reflective in the fields. The surfaces are virtually flawless, but not quite. Just as the Auction '79 coin has a small identifying mark in the right reverse field, so does this coin have a single abrasion that can be used in the future to identify it: a short mark is located just above the eagle's head on the reverse. Fully struck also, this is one of the finest examples known of this rare date, and a coin that is surely destined for one of the premier dollar sets being assembled today. From the Palm Beach Collection. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
