1892-S 50C MS61 ANACS. Despite having a relativel
1892-S<50C> MS61 ANACS. Despite having a relatively low original mintage of slightly more than one million pieces, the 1892-S should be relatively available in high grade due to its status as a first-year issue. This is not at all the case, as Lawrence suggests in his book The Complete Guide to Barber Halves. He writes that most (95%) extant '92-S half dollars will grade either AG or Good. The MS61 specimen we offer here displays bright chrome-like surfaces with traces of reddish-gold peripheral patina, especially on the obverse. The design features are sharply struck, and there are seemingly no significant abrasions. Wispy slidemarks are noted on Liberty's cheek and neck.
From The Empire State Collection, Part Two.
