1892-O 10C MS64 PCGS. Possible Specimen Strike. It has been more than six years since we have seen this coin, and it still is a wonder to behold. Last sold in our 1996 ANA Sale, we still concur with the description of the coin rendered at that time: "A simply amazing coin that is sure to excite every Dime specialist. Some 3,841,700 Dimes were minted in New Orleans in 1892, and while there is no record of presentation strike Dimes being minted, apparently at least one branch mint proof Dollar was produced that year, with this coin suggesting the possibility that a set of all the denominations could have been struck. The fields are mirrorlike, the devices frosty, every detail stands out sharply, the inner and outer rims are fully squared off, as is the edge. The coin is bathed in iridescent toning, light lilac in the centers, tending to deeper lilac, gold, and green at the periphery. We note a few hairlines under the toning upon the closest examination, which probably account for the grade. A coin not to be missed."Ex: 1996 ANA Sale (Heritage, 8/96), lot 5408, where it brought $990; sold to an anonymous dealer subsequently.
