1892 50C MS66 PCGS. More than 8 million 1892 quarters
1892<50C> MS66 PCGS. More than 8 million 1892 quarters were struck, but the mintage of the Barber half dollar was less than 1 million pieces. Perhaps the reason for the lower production was the Columbian Exposition halves, which also had a new mintage of just under 1 million pieces. After generations of Seated Liberty dates, the public must have been surprised by the new circulating designs, since 1892 halves of both types were set aside. At the MS66 level, however, the 1892 emerges as a rarity, and is also important as a type coin. This highly lustrous Premium Gem has light chestnut toning and a penetrating strike. The fletchings and shield corners are needle-sharp, and the fields are immaculate. Trivial ticks near the mouth are barely worthy of mention. This formidable first-year example would be a standout contribution to a high quality type set. Population: 36 in 66, 11 finer (6/06).
