1892 50C Columbian PR65 PCGS. The 1892 Columbian half, the first of the American silver commemoratives, is one of the few classic commemorative issues to have an appreciable mintage of proofs. Each of the first 100 pieces struck was a proof, as were three later strikings that coincided with numbers relevant to the dates of celebration.
The overall survival rate for the 1892 Columbian proofs is better than one might think, but few specimens have come through the years so well as this enticing piece. Rich blue-green and violet patina drapes gleaming mirrors, and the details of the portrait and the ship-and-hemispheres reverse motif are exacting. A carefully preserved and impressive coin, one that offers an excellent opportunity for the discerning commemoratives enthusiast. Population: 7 in 65, 4 finer (1/08).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
