<B>1892 50C Columbian PR65 NGC.</B></I> The 103 or 104 (accounts vary) proofs struck for the 1892 Columbian half are some of the rarest and most desirable pieces in the classic commemorative series, yet they are more affordable, even in Gem grades, than many condition rarities of later issues. Hazy gold-gray patina graces the moderate mirrors of this lovely proof, which displays razor-sharp detail on the finer points of the design, areas such as the sails and rigging. Minor contact is noted on the hemispheres, but the surfaces are clean otherwise.
