1892<25C> MS67 PCGS. Type One Reverse. Only a few other coins have the availability in high grade to be considered the ultimate type coin for that series. A few that come immediately to mind are 1883 No Cents nickels, 1909 cents, and 1916 Mercury dimes. In each case, the novelty of the new design compelled collectors as well as the general public to set aside examples of the new design. The 1892 quarter is another coin that can be added to that list. While plentifully available in lower grades, the 1892 is distinctly unavailable in MS67 condition. This is an obviously original coin that shows layer upon layer of gray, blue, and rose toning. Even with the significant presence of toning, the underlying mint luster is undeniably strong and it flashes through the layers of color. Well struck, the only mark of note is a tiny planchet flaw at the juncture of Liberty's neck and jawline. Population: 17 in 67, 2 finer (9/06).
