<B>1891 S$1 PR64 PCGS.</B></I> PCGS and NGC have certified roughly 300 or so 1891 proof Morgan dollars, having a mintage of 650 pieces. David Bowers (2005) writes of this issue: "Striking can be weak at the centers. Medium cameo contrast. Low mintage, the possibility of a weak strike, and so many cleaned and dipped coins on the market add up to a challenge." This untoned Near-Gem exhibits a relatively strong field-device contrast, and has been subject to a well executed strike. The only apparent softness occurs in the hair over Liberty's ear.
