1891-CC S$1 MS65 PCGS. VAM-3. A Top 100 Variety. The Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890 was a thinly disguised silver-price support, requiring the Treasury to buy 4.5 million ounces of silver and to coin 2 million silver dollars per month for a year, after which a coinage requirement--sufficient for the redemption of Treasury notes--would be at the discretion of Secretary of the Treasury. Carson City silver dollar coinage was correspondingly healthy in 1890 and 1891, although it moderated toward the end of the latter year, according to Rusty Goe's informative The Mint on Carson Street. 1891-CC silver dollars can be encountered in Gem and finer grades with some frequency. While the 1890-CC has its Tail Bar variety, the 1891-CC has its Spitting Eagle. This piece offers brilliant surfaces that are completely untoned save for a light golden patina.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
