1891-CC $10 MS62 NGC. Foreign demand for gold coins threatened to overwhelm the available supply in 1891. Accordingly, San Francisco was tasked to provide a large double eagle mintage, while Carson City took on the job of producing large numbers of eagles (103,732 pieces) and half eagles (208,000 coins). Meanwhile, Philadelphia was manufacturing millions of minor coins. According to Rusty Goe's The Mint on Carson Street, "As a result of unprecedented mintages of gold eagles at the Carson Mint in 1891, more examples of this date are extant than all of the other 18 years of 'CC' gold eagles combined. Estimated survival rates range from 3% to 4% with nearly half in Uncirculated condition. Like the 1884-CC silver dollar, the 1891-CC gold eagle is Carson City's gift to the collecting community."
This lustrous piece boasts splendid orange-gold coloration with a bit of smoky haze in the fields, and a few light contact marks consistent with the grade.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
