<B>1890's "Big Run" Cigar Box with Buck Ewing.</B></I> Don't let the rather nondescript exterior fool you--much like Pandora's, this box has its excitement hidden within. A gorgeously lithographed label on the interior lid offers a cornucopia of portraiture depicting the top celebrities of the day. Hall of Fame New York Giant Buck Ewing will likely be of greatest interest to our sports collecting clientele, but we must also mention William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, Percy Stone (jockey), Jacob Schaefer Sr. (billiards), L. E. Myers (runner), and James Albert (pedestrian). The label shows some paper loss at left edge that does not encroach upon the portraiture, a few small, unobtrusive wrinkles due to some warping of the lid, and a nail hole at top. Otherwise both the lid and the box to which it remains attached present very nicely.
