Featured in this lot is this 1890 copy of “Marching Through Georgia” by F.Y. Hedley. The book has a blue cloth covering with gold and black gilt lettering and decorations on the cover and spine. The book was written by Hedley, who was adjutant of the 32nd Illinois Infantry and Member of the Society of the Army of the Tennessee, and was illustrated by F.L. Stoddard. “Marching through Georgia” covers the years 1862-1865 with information on battles at Forts Henry and Donnelson, Shiloh, Vicksburg, and Chattanooga before getting into the march through Georgia. The book is a memoir of day-to-day life in the army, providing detailed descriptions of how the army was supplied, the construction of corduroy roads, and the destruction of rail lines instead of acting as a tactical history of the campaign. The book includes 28 illustrated plates and numerous in text illustrations. The condition of this book is good, with wear to the outside cover and browning to the pages consistent with the age of the book. The measurements of this book are 8" x 5 3/4".
