1890-CC S$1 MS65 PCGS. The first in a trio of conditionally challenging CC-mint Morgans from the ear
1890-CC S$1 MS65 PCGS. The first in a trio of conditionally challenging CC-mint Morgans from the early 1890s, the '90-CC is a noteworthy find as a Gem. Although coins dribbled out of government storage in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the 1890-CC was not well represented in the Treasury releases of the early 1960s. In fact, Bowers (1993) states that just 3,949 examples were still in government hands at that time, and those did not reach collectors until the GSA sales of the 1970s. We do not know at what point in time the present example first entered the numismatic market, but there can be little doubt that it is among the more appealing survivors at the MS65 level. The surface preservation is choice for the grade with few bagmarks of any size. The luster quality is no less impressive, being frosty in texture with swirling cartwheel effects. The toning is minimal, the strike is sharp, and the outward appearance is pleasingly bright. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
