1890-CC $10 MS63 PCGS. Winter 1-A, the only known dies. The 1890-CC, 1891-CC, and 1892-CC are the only three Carson City Mint Eagles that are typically offered in AU and Mint State grades. Produced to the extent of just 17,500 pieces, the '90-CC actually has a very tight grade distribution with the vast majority of survivors falling within the XF40-MS62 range. The Condition Census for this issue as listed in the 2001 Winter and Halperin book Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint includes a lone MS63 PCGS coin, five MS63 NGC examples, and 12-15 MS62 representatives graded by either service. The coin that we are offering here is a newcomer to this listing. Shades of golden-rose and orange-gold colors compete for dominance over vibrant, frosty textured surfaces. The overall impression is pleasingly sharp, but, as befits the issue, we note some slight softness of strike over a few of the obverse hair curls. Scattered abrasions seem to account for the MS63 designation, and one can also see some faint reverse grease stains (as struck) that should help trace the pedigree of this important Choice BU example. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
