1890-CC$1 MS64 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. In 1890, the Carson City Mint struck 2,309,041 Morgan Silver Dollars. Only the 2,212,000 coins struck at this Mint in 1878 is close to the record silver dollar production of this later date issue. Despite the record mintage, this date has the fifth lowest overall PCGS population of all 13 Carson City Mint issues. Although prooflike examples are seen rather frequently, most are poorly struck and few have strong contrast. Fortunately, this example is an exception to both rules, with fully brilliant surfaces and excellent design definition. The surfaces on both sides are fully white without any evidence of toning. The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices are highly lustrous. It is an outstanding example for the grade. Population: 153 in 64, 18 finer (1/05).
From The Dr. Volker Dube Collection. Lot:7255
