1889<G$1> PR66 PCGS. A small dark spot on Liberty's cheek may serve as a pedigree identifier for this Premium Gem proof, a coin that may deserve to be described as a cameo proof. The fields are exceptionally clean with deeply mirrored fields and the devices have moderate luster. Beginning in 1884 and continuing through this final issue, proof mintages exceeded 1,000 gold dollars in every year. In 1889, the proof mintage totaled 1,779 coins, the largest production of any proof gold piece ever coined at the Philadelphia Mint.
From The Hamburg-Sonoma Collection.
