<B>1889 G$1 MS67 NGC.</B></I> Survivors of this issue, the last gold dollar struck for circulation, are often seen in the highest grades. The present example is just such a coin with virtually flawless surfaces, frosty luster, and brilliant yellow-gold color. The reverse has a few tiny blemishes inside the wreath. As the gold dollar was phased out, with a production of 29,000 coins in 1889, few entered the channels of commerce in the late 19th century, thus there is a preponderance of Choice and Gem Mint State examples in numismatic circulation today.<BR><BR><B>Coin Engraver:</B> James B.
