1889-CC<S$1> MS63 Deep Mirror Prooflike NGC. Toned with light golden flecks around the periphery and attractive for the grade. Bright silver dominates the surfaces, which waver between the frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields. Boldly struck throughout, and attractive for the grade. There are scattered handling nicks in the lower left obverse field, and this particular coin is identifiable by a three reed nick below Liberty's eye and a faint horizontal nick on her chin. A scarce date to find with the desirable Deep Mirror Prooflike fields. Coinage from Carson City resumed in earnest in late 1889 with the ouster of President Grover Cleveland, and the Carson City Mint reopened soon after Benjamin Harrison assumed the Presidency in 1889. In the contested election of 1888, Cleveland won the popular vote by over 100,000, but lost the electoral vote to Harrison 233 to 168. Such events seldom happen in American politics.
