<B>1889-CC S$1 MS62 Prooflike PCGS.</B></I> Nearly 500 Mint State 1889-CC dollars have been certified by PCGS and NGC, but only about 130 have been designated Prooflike. This is an interesting distribution, especially in light of the observation by David Bowers (1993): "...nearly 50% of all Mint State coins (1889-CC dollars) display prooflike characteristics. In fact, this issue is distinctive among Morgan dollars in that it is just about as available in prooflike finish as with satiny luster. (Among nearly all other issues, prooflike coins form only a small percentage of Mint State coins.)"<BR> In any event, this MS62 specimen exhibits excellent field/motif contrast, especially when it is tilted under a light source. Barely discernible speckles of milky and light tan color visit both sides, and all of the design features are well impressed, including decent definition in the hair over Liberty's ear and in the eagle's breast feathers. A few minute marks on Liberty's cheek and in the obverse fields limit the grade.
