1889-CC S$1 MS62 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. Although the facility reopened on July 1, 1889, the Carson City Mint did not resume Morgan Dollar production until October of that year. With so little time remaining before the end of the calendar year, it is little wonder that the mintage of the 1889-CC amounted to just 350,000 pieces. A decent percentage of this total was placed into circulation at the time of issue with the result that, when offered at all, this key date is likely to be worn to one degree or another. Some Uncirculated coins, however, did emerge from federal holdings from the 1920s through the 1950s, most in the West. These pieces have long been absorbed by the market and, today, the '89-CC is rare at all levels of Mint State preservation. The present example is fully prooflike in finish, as are nearly 50% of the extant Uncirculated coins. Sharply struck throughout, the otherwise silver-white surfaces reveal a little light golden-orange patina at the denticles. Scattered abrasions are consistent with the assigned grade, few of which are individually distracting. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
