<B>1889-CC S$1 --Cleaned, Retoned--ANACS. MS60 Details.</B></I> There is no doubt that this is the rarest Carson City date in the entire series, even though two others (1881-CC and 1885-CC) have lower mintages. Just 350,000 of these coins were minted after an intermission from 1886 to 1888 where the Carson City Mint was dormant. Apparently the entire mintage was needed in local commerce as few have survived in Mint State quality. This piece has light hairlines on both sides, with gold toning recently applied to the surfaces.
