<B>1889-CC $20 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Perhaps assisted by the importance of the 1889-CC dollar, the double eagle of the same date and mintmark has become a popular coin among collectors. It is easily obtainable in circulated condition; however, according to Douglas Winter and Lawrence Cutler in their <I>Gold Coins of the Old West, The Carson City Mint,</B></I> it is doubtful "if any 1889-CC double eagle is currently known above MS63." Considering this fact, the purchase of an eye-appealing near-Mint State example presents an easily acceptable compromise for even the most discerning collector. The current AU58 example provides such an opportunity. The striking details are uniformly sharp definition on each side.
