1889-CC $1 AU58 PCGS
1889-CC $1 AU58 PCGS. The 1889-CC is the rarest and most desired issue among Carson City Morgan dollars, and is one of the keys to the Morgan dollar series. In comparison to the demand for them, examples are rare in all grades. David Bowers, in his A Buyers Guide to Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States (2006), estimates that "... probably at least 250,000" of the 350,000-piece mintage was melted.
This lightly circulated AU58 specimen is untoned except for a near-vertical band of pastel violet color that traverses the right central part of Liberty's portrait. The fields are strongly mirrored, and NGC previously certified this example as AU58 Prooflike; insert accompanies lot. This coin is quite well struck, as sharp definition is visible in the hair over Liberty's ear and the eagle's breast feathers. None of the few marks scattered over each side are worthy of individual mention, and the surfaces compare favorably to those of other, similarly graded examples. A very pleasing near-Mint example.
From the Diamond Head Collection.

Coin Engraver: George T.
