1889 50C MS66 NGC. The 1889 half dollar comes with a sparse mintage of 12,000 pieces. The low-production rates for the 1880s half dollars is alluded to by Randy Wiley and Bill Bugert (1993): "The low mintages are no doubt due to the implementation of the Bland-Allison Act of 1878 which required mints to purchase vast amounts of silver bullion and produce large quantities of silver (Morgan) dollars." This Premium Gem displays pleasing satiny luster, and just the faintest hint of tan-gold color visible under high magnification. Exquisitely struck, with no mentionable marks. Census: 9 in 66, 0 finer (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
