1889 $5 PR64 Cameo PCGS. Half eagle production at the Philadelphia Mint fell to just 7,565 pieces in 1889, 45 of those being proofs, and neither the San Francisco nor Carson City mints delivered any coins. Survivors are rarer than most of the other proof Liberty half eagles from the 1880s, as well as all of those from the 1890s. This well-contrasted specimen shows a touch of haziness over both sides that minimizes the effect of wispy hairlines. A tiny area of planchet roughness below star 12 should easily pedigree this piece in the future. While NGC has certified six coins similarly and three higher, this is tied with one other PCGS example graded PR64 Cameo, with none finer (11/06).
From The RNB Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
