Nevertheless, the 1889 is significantly scarcer than the 1878 and 1888 dates. This is a very sharply struck coin that exhibits softly frosted mint luster combined with semi-prooflikeness--a characteristic that is found on almost all dates in the three dollar series. A clean and problem-free coin, as one would expect from the grade, the only identifying mark we see is a small speck of brown from improper mixture of the gold/copper alloy to the right of the denomination on the reverse. Population: 25 in 65, 9 finer (10/03). </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><A name=PricesRealized></A><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%"><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%" bgColor=#79735c><A name=PR><FONT face=arial color=#ffffff size=3><B>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</B> </FONT></A></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#f6f6ed><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=1><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Date</B></TD><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Service</B></TD><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Price</B></TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>10/07/2001</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$10,062.50</TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>09/01/1999</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$10,925.00</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffff><FONT face=arial size=1 ?>PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
